On 12.06.06, my throat felt very dry when I woke up in the morning. That was not a good sign. The next day my throat felt worse, I had no choice but to see the doctor. The doctor said that I got a throat infection & fever. So, for the next 3 days I had to finish the antibiotic that the doctor prescribed me. I only recovered from the throat infection & fever one day before the race. I felt alive again!! Thank god!!

Race Day

Headed to PJ around 5.40 am using LDP. Due to stomach upset, I had to stop at the rest area next to the Seri Kembangan exit. Reached the Stadium area around 6.10 am. Once again, I had to go to the rest room, parked my car & rushed to the mosque nearby for that ‘nature call’. Then, easy jogged to the starting point.

Sharp 6.30 am the race started. I ran quite slow at the beginning & then started to pick up the pace slowly. Actually, I did not know how fast should I run for this race coz I had no idea what was my fitness level after the sickness.

I told myself that as long as my breathing is smooth & my legs are ok, I just keep on running & maintain the pace. I stopped at all the refreshment stations & drank at least 2 cups of 100 plus. Took 1 or 2 cups of plain water & poured onto my body for cooling down.

After the u-turn at the subang airport, I felt confidence that I could run faster, then I geared up & increased the pace. I ‘potong sayur’ quite a number of runners. However, it didn’t last long, after a while my energy level decreased drastically & my leg became heavier & heavier. So, I had to slow down. Some of the runners ‘potong sayur’ me back, I felt very frustrated at that time but I was determine not to stop or walk.

I ran slowly until the refreshment station no. 4, stopped a while & drank 3 cups of 100 plus. I felt refresh & then, started to run again. This time I was determine to give all out of the energy I had. Started to increase the pace & begun to ‘potong sayur’ again. I managed to maintain the speed until the last 500 meters. Then, I started to run at a faster speed & managed to overtake another 8 - 10 runners.

The last 100 meters at the stadium’s track, by the spirit of ‘pia’ (learned from der PM1), I sprint with all the energy I had & managed to overtake another 3 runners. Crossed the finishing line, checked my timing & it was 2:06:32. Received the card from the officer in-charged & it was no. 208!

Conclusion

I was quite satisfied with my overall performance eventhough I did not achieve my race objectives; to get the medal & to clock the timing of sub 2 hours. I believed this was largely due to my sickness a few days before the race. My fitness was estimated only 90 - 95% recovered on the race day. But the good news was, I renewed my PR by 10 minutes. So, cannot complain at all!!
