Race Day

My wife woke me up at 5.30 am. Thank you Ina! Took one banana & power bar for my breakfast. Headed to KL around 5.50 am & reached Bukit Aman car park at 6.20 am. Then, easy jogged to the Padang Merbuk. The weather was very good that morning, cloudy & cool.

So many people already gathered at the Padang Merbok’s parking space & I heard that this race attracted 1,460 participants, the largest number recorded since the race started in 2003. Then, the MC announced to all participants that they had to move to the starting point, which located at the other side of the field.

Warmed up & stretched for about 10 minutes. At 7.00 am sharp, the race started. I ran at a comfortable pace. I took my first power gel at the first water station. Then after that, the challence came, the double hill route was quite tough. I had to run at a very slow pace during the uphill running. However, during the downhill, I increased my speed in order to catch up the time lost during the uphill running.

I took my second power gel with endurance drink at the second water station. Then, continued running at a comfortable/manageable pace. At that time, my breathing was good and my leg was still fine.

The last km, I increased my pace & maintained it until the end. After crossing the finishing line, I received the medal, a bottle of drinking water & food/drink vouchers. Breakfast were served, which comprised of porridge, instant noodles, tau foo fah, cendol & fruits.

Conclusion

I was quite satisfied with my overall performance eventhough I didn’t achieve my targeted time of sub 1:25. This was due to the toughness of the hilly route.

I was proud of myself coz I managed to run without stopping/walking at the Double Hill route. My hill training at the Putra Perdana Park really paid off.

Thumbs-up for the organiser! They really performed good jobs.
