Race Day
This time, my kids, Ashraff & Ashmann followed me to the race. We headed to KL around 6.45 am & arrived at Bukit Aman car park around 7.20 am. We had to walk for 10 minutes to reach Padang Merbuk.
I went to the registration counter to collect my Bib No & t-shirt. The counter was very wet & muddy. I had to go to the rest room to wash my kid’s slippers & foots.
I warmed up for 10 minutes at the car park & after completed the session, took the power gel & endurance drink. Then, I asked my kids to wait at the nearby tent, before headed to the starting point at the middle of the field.
The starting point was also very wet and muddy. Too bad, I was wearing my new Adidas Supernova Competition. I felt like going home at that time. But my heart said, “It is ok. I still can wash the shoes, the most important thing is I can run & enjoy the race!”.
8.30 am sharp, the race begun. I started to run very slow coz I had to jump here & there to find the dry land. It was horrible, at one point, one of my shoes was sucked by the mud & almost slipped of. My shoes became very wet, dirty & heavy. Ergggghh…!!
After crossing the field, suddenly, all the runners infront of me changed their direction. I heard someone said, “Wrong direction!!!”. How come this thing happened for an event organised by a professional body!! Then, I followed the crowd & increased my pace.
On the other side of the road, in different direction, another race event (Bomba Run) took place & to my surprise some of the runners from Asthma Run accidently went to the other side of the road & clashed with Bomba Run’s runners.
This time around, my running was excellence, my legs didn’t give me problems & my breathing was smooth. The weather was quite nice, cool & cloudy.
About 50 meters reaching the finishing line, again I had to cross the wet & muddy field. What a stress!! Crossed the finishing line & my timing was 26:12. After that I collected the free food (Ribena, McEgg & drinking water), took my kids at one of the tent & then, ready to go home.
Conclusion
My mission failed, the timing was off by 2 min from my targeted timing. The reasons were, I didn’t push hard enough to get a better result (always ran at my comfort pace), did not have enough speed training & sure ‘lah’, the muddy field (made my shoes heavier) & also the wrong direction. My next 5 km event is MMDS2 (Team Relay) at Putrajaya & my target time is 22 minute.
